Our Distance Learning Program
During the pandemic, we have reimagined Aim High. Same community, new format, unequivocal results.
Aim High at Home
We are excited to announce our plans for Aim High, Summer 2021.
Aim High students will participate in a fun and exciting virtual learning program where students feel confident and safe to be themselves. Our five-week virtual program keeps students actively, joyfully learning and connected to their classmates and teachers all summer long. In addition, we are designing and planning optional in-person programming, in all of our regions in accordance with local and state health and safety guidelines.
We are committed to providing a high-quality virtual learning program this summer. Every day this summer Aim High will provide up to 4 hours of education and enrichment with a fun, thoughtful mix of live online classes and guided offline work. We keep our teacher-to-student ratios low to foster relationship building and ensure every student receives the support they need.
What To Expect This Summer
Every student participating in Aim High this summer will receive a kit full of supplies needed to complete STEAM activities.
45-Minute Academic Classes
Students will have slightly more time for projects and class discussions.
Students will be able to join virtual classrooms based on their interests. For example: join a meditation, game, quiet study or teamwork room.
More time to connect and make friends.
Students will be in small groups and compete in team challenges, which will help build community and encourage friendships.
Academics: STEAM, Book Club and Issues & Choices
Throughout the summer students build literacy, critical-thinking and problem-solving skills with weekly STEAM challenges and our Aim High Book Club. They also develop college and career awareness, researching their options and setting goals for the future.
Community and Connection
Our inclusive community thrives in daily morning circles and end-of-week reflections. We create safe, supportive spaces in our signature Issues and Choices class, where students address challenges of identity, peer pressure, bullying and more.
Activities and Physical Challenges
We challenge students to get active every day, focusing on their own well-being as they try new things and learn skills in non-academic settings. Our engaging activity mix includes dance, sports, yoga, art classes and walking meditation. Students can sign up to participate in activities with organizations like Women’s Audio Mission, Camp EdMo and A.C.T.
Throughout the summer students will be able to earn prizes based on their participation.
Parent Engagement and Support
Aim High keeps parents in the know with weekly newsletters detailing upcoming activities and workshops for supporting their child’s learning. We also offer opportunities to engage with other educational and enrichment organizations.
Weekly Family Challenges
Every week families will have the option to participate in weekly challenges.
How to Apply
Aim High is designed for students in the greater Bay Area entering 6th – 9th grades who live in underserved communities, come from low-income households, or have limited access to summer enrichment. We expect admitted students to attend the full five-week Aim High program for up to four summers.
