The Aim High Young Leaders Board put the ‘fun’ in fundraising when they hosted a Jeopardy!-themed trivia event at San Francisco’s Standard Deviant Brewing Company on March 14. Inspired by the homespun version of Jeopardy! that Aim High students play each summer, the Young Leaders adjusted the game for a slightly older audience. Cleverly coined “Are You Smarter Than a Middle Schooler,” the inaugural event sold out within the first five weeks of ticket sales. More than 60 participants representing Accenture, BlackRock, Shorenstein Properties, and other Bay Area companies put their middle school memory to the test for two rounds of trivia. Contestants were required to respond to clues in the classic answer-and-question format. Standing in for Alex Trebek was Aim High’s revered alumna and educator Michelle Cody. She posed questions that celebrated Aim High’s culture and history, while also quizzing contestants on middle school knowledge.

“Our students are going to change the world,” Michelle said towards the end of the evening. “By contributing to Aim High, you’re helping to elevate a child to the next level. They may be the person who cures cancer, or they may be the person who takes us to space. Whatever the case, we have amazing young people who really are impacted by the Aim High summer.”

The Aim High Young Leaders Board (YLB) is a cohort of professionals ages 22-35 who are committed to narrowing opportunity and achievement gaps across Northern California. Representing the business, legal, education, nonprofit, and tech communities of the Bay Area, Young Leaders serve as ambassadors for Aim High and advance fundraising, volunteer, and alumni engagement efforts.
