Aim High students had the experience of a lifetime when they met Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry. Four Aim High students and their families were Curry’s special guests as the Golden State Warriors took on the Utah Jazz Tuesday night. Following the game, the students and parents enjoyed a meet-and-greet with the two-time league-MVP. Allen, a student from one of our Oakland campuses, had the prized duty of introducing Aim High to Curry. Describing the summer program, Allen shared what he appreciated about Aim High, “It pushed me out of my comfort zone, challenged me to do something I’ve never done before, and made me confident in myself and my abilities.” Allen’s mom, Montrella, chimed in adding that Aim High’s field trips, including this one, give students important opportunities. “They are exposed to successful professionals that make the impossible seem more attainable,” she said. Sarah, an Aim High graduate who currently works in our central office, came with her cousin, Kenny, another Aim High student. A diehard Warriors fan, Sarah was ecstatic. “It was surreal that someone as successful and accomplished as Stephen Curry would personally recognize the program that I have grown up in.”

The students who attended were recipients of the Youth Opportunity Scholarship, which provides funding to Bay Area middle school students to pursue extracurricular activities. They were joined at the game by Mark Lampert, a long-time Aim High supporter and founder of the Youth Opportunity Scholars program. All four students had received scholarships for activities ranging from SSAT preparation classes to mixed martial arts and trampolining. Mark was also pleased with the evening. “Steph could not have been more gracious or down-to-earth. He was genuine and disarming,” he said. “It was an absolutely amazing night.” Thank you Golden State Warriors and Stephen Curry for supporting Aim High and for giving our students an unforgettable experience at their very first Warriors Game.
